In Loving Memory of Spoon
I’ve unfortunately had to write way too many posts about losing club members, but this one is particularly difficult. It’s truly heartbreaking that someone would leave us at the age of just 39.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a cherished member of our cricketing family, Brendan ‘Spoon’ Scott, who left us early this morning. Brendan’s journey with the East Box Hill Cricket Club was a remarkable one, filled with dedication, passion, and a deep love for the game.
Brendan’s association with our club began during the 2009/10 season, and from that moment on, he became an integral part of our cricketing community. His inaugural match on the 3rd of October 2009, in the 4th XI against Doncaster, marked the beginning of a cricketing adventure that would span over a decade.
Throughout his time at East Box Hill, Brendan exhibited unwavering commitment, showcasing his skills both on and off the field. As a versatile player who batted, bowled, and kept, Brendan’s dedication was unparalleled. His numerous accomplishments are a testament to his passion for the sport and his enduring impact on the East Box Hill Cricket Club.
However, Spoons’ legacy extends far beyond his statistics. He took on various pivotal roles within the club, including Junior Manager, Junior Coach, Captain, and Committee Member, just to name a few.
His contributions were duly recognized with a plethora of awards, including a Batting Average, Club Champion, Presidents Award, Darren Reid Incentive Award, and culminating in the most prestigious of all the Howard Wilson Best Clubman award in 2016/17.
Brendan’s dedication, sportsmanship, and camaraderie touched us all. He was not just a teammate; he was a true friend.
Let’s cherish the moments, victories, and bonds we shared. Brendan’s spirit lives on in our hearts and on Howard Wilson Oval.
I had the absolute privilege of visiting Spoon with Tagger last Saturday, though he wasn’t at his best, he still had that same old Spoon cheeky attitude and sense of humor.
Mate, I’ll miss you dearly and I Love you.
Rest In Peace Big Fella.
